10.12.2008: First Doctorate at the Cologne University of Apllied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach
Certified engineer Tanja Hilmer does her doctorate as the first employee of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach. Within the scope of a research project for control a Sewage System she attains her doctor's title at the „Open Universiteit Nederland“.
The title of the extensive doctoral thesis is called „Water in Society“, the thesis which Dr. Tanya Hilmer has produced in connection with the research project KANNST (Control of Sewage System). The doctorate became possible by the cooperation of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach, with the Dutch University in Heerlen. Besides, Mrs. Hilmer pursued two research attempts: The technical area of the work deals with the optimization of the Sewage System in the catchment area of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Homburg-Bröl. A social-scientific study about the possibilities of the integration of involved circles of acquaintances, as for example local residents, politicians or also students forms the second part of the work. Besides, the protection of waterbodies is the most important aspect of the Research.
