25.09.2011: Lehr- und Forschungszentrum der FH-Köln auf der Leppe
On 25. September, the inauguration of the :metabolon-project,Johannes Remmel, the Minister of Environment of NRW, visited the exihibition tent of the research group. The Minister was deeply impressed by the concept of the European research network. The Scientists, under the scientific direction of Prof. Bongards, Cologne University of Applied Sciences Campus Gummersbach, study in the area of recycling and energy.
Directly in front of the research building a pilot plant station will be developed, in which - among other things - biogas plants are built up in an industrial attempt graduation . Thus, they are clearly bigger than a lab arrangement, but even smaller than a technical-scale plant. The FH's currently planned research projects refer to the optimization of biogas plants and combustion technology. The Gummersbach research group GECO►C under the direction of Prof. Dr. Michael Bongards, has collected experiences in simulation and control of biogas plants with agricultural rubbish and rest materials for many years. Now, the work with organic waste from households is relativly new for the 15-headed team. "To cope with these tasks we need the close technical collaboration with our colleagues in Cologne. On behalf I would like to mention Prof. Dr. Astrid Rehorek and Prof. Dr. Christiane Rieker, with which we successfull participate the competence platform STEPS for already five years. STEPS is an interdisciplinary scientific network to practice research and train graduate students", explains Prof. Bongards.
