30.11.2011: Distinguished visitors from South Korea at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences
As already last year, a south korean group had visited the Cologne University of Applied Sciences once more at the end of November 2011: The visitors with representatives from government, research, education and industry informed themleves about the topical research in the field of environmental engineering at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach. To confirm the professional dispatch the visitors attended subsequently the :metabolon location, the landfill Leppe.
Annually the South Korean Ministry of Environment announces a scholarship for prosperous students in the field of environmental technology. The top finishers get the chance to take part on a study trip to Germany, which is - from Asian perspective - a country with advanced environmental technology. The scholars were accompanied by a representative of the South Korean Ministry of Environment as well as by representatives of KEITI and KERC. KEITI - Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute - is a national institute for green economic development, KERC - Korea-EU Research & Business Center - is the South Korean connection to European research and economy. Together, they have activated important positions in the field of environmental technology. A purpose was the Campus Gummersbach, part of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Research in the field of Biogas technology was taken center stage, according to the visitors request. For this reason, Prof. Bongards and his team were offered to represent own approaches and achievements in the process optimization of anaerobic fermentation. Therefor aspects of small plant operators up to plants on an industrial level were explained. Referring to the presentation, the experts visited the extracurricular teaching and research site of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences: At the central Landfill Leppe, the location of the :metabolon research project, the current research could be demonstrated in the real biogas plant. The visitations highlight was the conducted tour at the new-organized central dump arranged by the Bergischer Abfallverband, the :metabolon project partner.
