16.12.2011: Innovative thesis for computer science awarded
Innovation was the major criterion for evaluating the best thesis by the Opitz CONSULTING GmbH from Gummersbach. Thomas Ludwig, a member of the GECOC working group at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach, was honored for his master thesis with the first place. In the scope of his thesis "Proof of Concept and Prototype Development of an Integration Infrastructure for Self-Organizing Wireless Sensor Networks in conjunction with an ERP system (SAP)" Mr. Ludwig was concerned with the cross linking of wireless sensors and the subsequent treatment of grasped data in the standard operating software SAP. These sensors are able to collect, for example, temperature, air humidity or filling levels and transmit these data.
Within the scope of a big OPITZ CONSULTING Christmas celebration jury member Dr. Jan Coupette, OPITZ Senior Consultant, handed each winner symbolically a big check. The obtained results of Thomas Ludwig master thesis offer a variety of applications in production control, warehousing, the health and the energy sector. On the one hand the Master thesis could contribute to the improvement of sensors, on the other hand it offers innovative solutions for data communication. Prof. Dr. Michael Bongards and Prof. Dr. Hartmut Westenberger have been in charge of the master thesis within the scope of the degree program "Automation and Industrial IT".
