07.- 09.02.2012: :metabolon at "E-World energy & water"
The Cologne University of Applied Sciences presented - together with the Bergischer Abfallwirtschaftsverband (BAV) - the 14-million-euro project :metabolon at the international trade fair "E-World Energy & Water" in Essen. During the time from the 7th to the 9th of February more than 20,000 registered visitors join the exhibition. The BAV, as the operator, and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences presented their activities at the Leppe-Landfill, a huge former landfill site in Lindlar (Bergisches Land), at the communal estate of the country North Rhine-Westphalia. The technical term "metabolon" stands for the conversion of the region into an international teaching and research center, among other things with a biogas pilot plant, exhibition spaces and a business park. Thus, :metabolon is a model solution for landfills across Europe.
The state's care occured by members of the 15-headed research group GECO►C as well as other :metabolon employees of the Cologne Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Regenerative Energy. Among other things, a demonstration model of a biogas plant was presented on the estate, which caused great interest of visitors. "We could welcome many foreign visitors to our estate, e.g. from Asia, who have almost no experience in the field of biogas utilization. Often we had several interested parties on the estate." Eva Kulage, the representative for international contacts in the field of :metabolon research, was glad.
