22.3.2012: Aggerverband distinguished theses of GECO►C staff
The regional water supply company Aggerverband awarded it's annually awards for excellent theses at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences this year was it at the nationwide "Day of Water'. Therewith were two master theses received which were written by members of the Working Group GECO►C: Mr. Vitali Dercho get the second place with his thesis ("Development and testing of a control system for optimization of sewer flushing"), which he had tested at the wastewater treatment plant in Wetzlar. The further reduction in demand for drinking water can cause deposits in the sewer system, making sewer flushing necessary. In particularly vulnerable sections of the sewer the flushing can be done by automated channel shields, which can caused intermittent loads at the wastewater treatment plant.
The third place went to Christian Bock with his theme "Practical test of an online-particle-sizing-analysis for the state of a municipal wastewater treatment plant". In addition to plant residues and sand mainly sewage sludge arise during wastewater treatment. In this way the state and the composition of the sludge in the activation basin allow conclusions about the quality and safety of the wastewater treatment process. Mr. Bock has tested a novel system for the analysis of particle sizes on the membrane treatment plant Seelscheid. It allows automated monitoring of the sludge particle size with a laser diode instead of the use of microscopic examinations.
