23.-25.04.2013: International Conference for waste treatment in Europe at the Campus Gummersbach
Professor Bongards and his research group GECO►C have arranged the 3-day conference in the framework of the EU project "RENEW - Resource Innovation Network for European Waste" at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Campus Gummersbach. On this occasion, about 50 participants from Belgium, Germany and Ireland discussed the possibilities of the raw material recovery from waste. RENEW had been judged among 20 applications from different EU countries as the second best project application and is promoted with 2.4 million euros until June 2015. The scientists spent the second conference day, 24.02.2013, on :metabolon, the teaching and research centre of the cologne University of Applied Sciences Cologne, where the experts appeared quite enthusiastic about the conceptand the implementation of the project.
Prof. Bongards was able to show proudly that exactly the topics which play a large role also in the RENEW project are dealt with in Lindlar: The development of new concepts for the extraction of raw materials from waste. Beside different universities there are also research institutes and state facilities of the waste management involved at the RENEW-project, in which Dr. Elaine Groom, a member of the QUESTOR center at the Queen's University Belfast, has taken on the chairmanship in the research group. "We are very satisfied with the expiry of the conference. In the scope of many subjects, we were able to fix some first, important decisions as well as determined the directions of further research", Prof. Bongards was delighted.
