27.05.2013:CUAS sponsoring association visits :metabolon
Professor Dr. Michael Bongards led the members of the CUAS sponsoring association about the Leppe landfill, on which the Cologne University of Applied Sciences has opened a teaching and competence center within the scope of the renowed :metabolon project. In this regard, he showed the representatives of the regional business enterprises exactly in which direction the scientist search at the Leppe landfill and which equipment they have up to now. Espacially the big boiler for wood chips impressed the members of the sponsoring association: Herewith a whole hospital can be heated without problems. Only thanks to the ideal conditions at Leppe landfill research is possible with a boiler of this scale.
Furthermore, there are a pellet press, a pilot biogas plant as well as a large industrial biogas plant available to the research community. "Here, we are equipped really perfectly to deal with issues of sustainable energy", Prof. Bongards is pleased. "Thanks to the existing infrastructure and the support from the land NRW we were able to create here ideal conditions for us. At present, our young scientists deal not only with the optimal usability of known combustibles, but also test the effectiveness of previously unused materials."
