29.05.2013: Second Ph.D. in Irish elite university
With Dr. Christian Wolf the second employee of the research team GECO►C has already completed his doctoral thesis in cooperation with the Irish University Maynooth successfully. The defense of the thesis ["Simulation, Optimization and Instrumentation of agricultural Biogas Plants"] took place in Ireland on 5-16-2013. "The examination was quite exhausting", said Dr. Christian Wolf afterwards. "Especially when one has dealt with a topic for years, then there are - of course - a huge number of little things at which the examiners can stop. And furthermore, I wanted to sell myself as well as possible." Prof. Bongards who took part as a supervisor of the thesis but was not allowed to ask any questions, supplemented with a smile: "Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with the result."
During his doctoral thesis Dr. Christian Wolf has intensely dealt with the application of online measuring technology on biogas plants, an area on which the GECOC working group has achieved meanwhile a high level of competence. The receipt of the measured values in real time enables significantly earlier reactions to changes in plant conditions and therefore facilitates an optimized regulating and control of the highly complex fermenter operation. Also the application of Computational Intelligence methods is part of the necessary tools, which enable the researcher to evaluate the non-linear running of the biological-chemical degradation processes.
