GECO►C employee, Thomas Ludwig, M.Eng., will study for two months in Japan, from June till August. In the context of his doctoral thesis, Mr. Ludwig has applied for a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholarship to get a short grant at a Japanese university for the realisation of a two-month research stay. The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) gives young scientists not only the opportunity to explore on selected topics, but the researcher also receive insights into the language and the culture of the country of the rising sun.
"My doctoral thesis offers me the possibility of gaining studies experience abroad, an opportunity which I absolutely wanted to seize," explains Thomas Ludwig. "I wanted to study in Japan, because of its leading position in research circles and because of mine long-standing interest in japanese culture." Before Mr. Ludwig will start with his research on the topic "Power Optimization of linear motor elevator" at Kobe University, he will attend a one-week introductory course in the Japanese language, culture and science politics. "I am particularly excited about this time", the doctoral candidate emphasizes. "We will be accommodated directly in a Japanese family and will learn much about life and behavior in Japan."
