Innovative online MIR Spectroscopy for Biogas plants
The intelligent, adaptive control of biogas plants is essential for a safe and stable biogas production with a constant amount of biogas. The research team GECO►C is developing a probe in cooperation with an industrial partner, which absorbs in the middle infrared range. The development of an automated self-cleaning mechanism for the probe is highly innovative and the researchers break new ground herewith.
Many biochemical process parameters absorb in the liquid phase of the fermentation mainly in mid-infrared range (MIR). Up until now, this was not measurable because of attenuation problems during light transmission. Thanks to the work carried out in association with a leading company that manufactures high performance fibers this will change now. Using the new fibres made measurement of previously unused parameters in the MIR range possible such as the organic acid concentration.
The development of an automatic probe cleaning system by the working group GECO►C has also be described as highly innovative. In addition to the complicated control system, the working group also must develop a mobile probe fitting, which first enables the automatic cleaning.
