Mobile Monitoring

Modern wastewater treatment plants are highly automated and, to a very large extent, operate autonomously. Despite this, the use of staff on site cannot be dispensed with. Service technicians are required, particularly for carrying out regular maintenance, repairs, taking readings or fine tuning the wastewater treatment plant. The employees are often responsible for several wastewater treatment plants that are located at different sites. It would be very useful, in this connection, if the service technicians were to be informed of the current operational state of the wastewater treatment plant in question whilst they were at work.

On order to make this possible, supplying the employees with information covering more than one location – even outwith the operations centre – is of great benefit.

The GECO►C research team has developed a mobile visualisation system which is capable of being run in on and offline mode. It is flexible and can be adjusted and optimised for the user in question. Integration into an existing infrastructure is possible without any problems, and represents a crucial advantage of our product. A basic prerequisite for using it are high-performance mobile devices that have a secure and reliable software platform as well as feasible radio data transmission standards.

Technical Data

The mobile process visualisation system of our team is based on the modern Microsoft .NET technology and offers features such as:

  • Display of current and historic process values
  • Issue of operational announcements
  • Automatic monitoring, event-driven display and acknowledgement of malfunction messages
  • Recording of meter readings even when not connected to the network (storage on local database)
  • Synchronisation of local data and central database
  • • Flexible connection to the existing infrastructure through the support of various interfaces(web services, OPC, SQL server, SQL server CE)

The user has an interface available to him that can be operated intuitively and is Windows compliant. Thus, it is possible for him to access the process information that is available without expensive training on how to use it.
