:metabolon - From Waste to Value
The former landfill Leppe of the local waste management association (Bergischer Abfallwirtschaftsverband) is transformed to a center of research and expertise - a facility of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS). The main working scopes of this new research center are material conversion, sustainable resource efficiency as well as the development of site-related environmental technologies and techniques. Prof. Bongards, as the scientific project leader, compiles automation solutions for the available research modules with his research team GECO►C.
The main focus of the scientific research is on the sustainable management of previously unused resources and the ecologically compatible reintegration of produced rest materials. The great advantage of the competence center is the narrow linking of different pilot plants which allows practical tests on the landfill site.
Thus, the obtained specialized knowledge will be passed on to interested experts as well as to the public in the form of trainings, seminars, e.g. In this way, an international teaching and research center arises for technology and material flow management. Further information:
