Gelsenwasser AG and Technische Werke Emmerich (TWE)
Gelsenwasser AG, founded in 1896 and with its headquarters in Gelsenkirchen, has, with approx. 1,200 employees and an annual turnover of 400 Mio. € (2005), become one of the largest companies supplying drinking water in Germany. In addition to supplying drinking water, its operating areas also include wastewater treatment as well as energy supply. In addition to the main supply area between the Ruhr and the Ems, Gelsenwasser AG also has interests in other water-supply and disposal companies nationwide (e.g. Stadtentwässerung Dresden GmbH, Städtische Werke Magdeburg GmbH).

Technische Werke Emmerich (TWE) is a joint-venture between the town of Emmerich (50,1%) and Gelsenwasser AG (49,9%). TWE started up in 2004 and is responsible for the proper collection, draining-off and treatment of wastewater from the district and industry.
This also includes the management of the 223 km long sewerage system including all special structures as well as the operation of the biological wastewater treatment plant at Emmerich.
At the moment, 17 employees are charged with fulfilling these duties.
