Wupperverband is a public corporation and one of the biggest Water Board in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is pleaded for sustainable and integral environmental protection. Wupperverband takes care for the catchment area of the wupper, with a territory of 814 km².
Members of the association are communities, districts, towns, water distribution companies, waste management enterprises and also the business and the industry along the Wupper rivershed.
As a public corporation the duties of Wupperverband comprise:
Wastewater Treatment including removal with sewage sludge
Flood prevention
Raising of low water
Provision of water supplies for drinking water from the Großen Dhünn-dam
Ecological Development of rivers and creeks
And also the Determination of basic principles on water supply management
